I am a born and bred Mackem who makes cars during the day (and night), then, after family commitments, I find escapism with a camera to take photographs. Based in Houghton le Spring, I have an ideal base to explore all that the North-East of England has to offer, including stunning coastline and landscape, as well as some top notch Indian takeaways on my doorstep!
My photographic roots sprouted in the early 80's when I received my first SLR camera as a Christmas present. I recall the moment fondly, remembering it as a catalogue purchase with an agreed repayment of £1 per week, to be funded by my mother. The camera was a Russian built Zenith EL model, which was certainly no big hitter in the camera world, but it was enough to start a hobby that continues today. Between 1985 and 2003 there were barren years when I stepped back from photography, but the digital revolution rekindled my interest and I began to take photography more seriously. Gone were the rolls of film and transparency, to be replaced with memory cards and a kit bag full of goodies, including my first DSLR.
It quickly became apparent that this second coming wasn't going to be a passing phase, as I reacquianted myself in the technique and art of photography. Learning from magazines, books and the internet, I am completely self-taught. I also enjoy uploading my latest images to ashleycorr.com, which I built myself, with no prior knowledge of web design.
I have enjoyed modest success with my photography, including publications such as book covers, magazines, brochures and cd booklets. In addition to this, I regularly contribute to local charities. My photography is a labour of love, not a business.
I feel very fortunate to live in this picturesque part of the UK..."Our coastline and countryside are such an inspiration, every season has something new to offer."
