Man On The Moors, Castleton Rigg, North Yorkshire Moors, UK
A 3 metre high statue of a seated man appeared at one of the most dramatic locations on the North Yorkshire Moors. As the summer heather season was in full swing, I headed across there to check out the Jeremy Corbijn lookalike.
The bronze painted statue was the brainchild of Sean Henry and commissioned by the David Ross Foundation. David Ross is the co-founder of UK company Carphone Warehouse and owns the land which the statue was placed.
The Man On The Moors was put in position in June 2017 and proved to be very popular with tourists and sightseers, but you had to hike half a mile from the nearest road to see it. The plan was to leave the statue in situ for 5 years, but in April 2019 it was removed and placed in the North Yorkshire Statue Museum.
I visited the statue on 3 occasions, beginning with a daytime recce, when the heather was in full bloom, followed by 2 night time trips to attempt a star trail and a milky way shot. See video above for the results of those 3 trips.
The Man On The Moors - a pleasure to visit, although those night time teks across the moors in pitch dark were an experience and a half !
