Manoeuvres - Premier Tribute To Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD)

 

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) are an English electronic band formed in Wirral, Merseyside, in 1978. The group consists of co-founders Andy McCluskey (vocals, bass guitar) and Paul Humphreys (keyboards, vocals), along with Martin Cooper (various instruments) and Stuart Kershaw (drums); McCluskey has been the only constant member. Regarded as pioneers of electronic music, OMD combined an experimental, minimalist ethos with pop sensibilities, becoming central figures in the late-1970s/early-1980s emergence of synth-pop.

As far as OMD tribute bands go, Manoeuvres is the only one I 've heard of and it consists of a husband and wife combo, Barry and Sarah Walton. I had my reservations at first, not really knowing what to expect, but after taking in their show at the Majestic Theatre in Darlington, UK, I was very impressed at wahat they had to offer. The sound and presentation was excellent and they certainly did OMD proud.

I love how although inspired by the original band, Manoeuvres is true to their very own style.  If you haven’t heard them play you’re missing out!! Quite a tribute to OMD indeed!
