Remembrance Day Tribute, 2018 - Seaham Harbour, UK
Remembrance Day 2018 was another memorable occasion at Mission 11.01, in Seaham Harbour, County Durham, UK. 'Eleven-o-one represents the first minute of armistice, when Tommy (Soldier statue) reflects on the harrowing experience of a world war that has officially ended. It's such a poignant work of art, created by Ray Lonsdale and situated on the village green, it has become part of the furniture in this north-east coastal town. Visitors from far and wide have flocked to see Tommy and I can't imagine how many times I've photographed him. It's up there with my favourite subjects and one that I never tire of photographing.
In November 2018, Tommy was once again the focal point of another poppy tribute by local ex-servicemen, volunteers, school children and army cadets. Here is a slideshow with accompanying music, showing highlights of the Remembrance Day ceremony.
