Illuminated Abbey 2017, Whitby, North Yorkshire, England, UK

Cast light on a dark history this Halloween! See Bram Stoker’s inspiration in a new light as Whitby Abbey is bathed in dramatic illuminations once again. Have your camera at the ready as you explore the gothic splendour of the ruins lit up with all the colours of the rainbow.

And of course it wouldn’t be Halloween without the Count! See the story of Dracula brought to life before your very eyes within the abbey ruins all aglow, with a twist on our usual show.

Stop by the historical traders’ market to warm up with a bite to eat and a hot drink or treat yourself to a spooky souvenir to take home.

25th – 31st October 2017 @ Whitby, North Yorkshire

Tickets for Whitby Goth Weekend cost £69 for the weekend or £38 for a day ticket, family and children’s tickets are also available. Tickets for the Abbey cost £9.50 for adults, £8.50 for concessions and £5.90 for children (there are discounts for English Heritage members).

What is it?

October is a busy month for the Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby, partly due to its famous literary heritage and Gothic architecture. From Wednesday 25th to Tuesday 31st October, English Heritage will be lighting up the Gothic Abbey after dark, to celebrate Halloween.

The Illuminated Abbey event will also give visitors the chance to meet a Victorian undertaker and hear tales about grave robbing from the Resurrection Man. And, at 8pm each night, visitors can watch the tale of Dracula performed in a new light.
